Choose one primary inlet
Whole berries need reception, physical cleaning, defined preparation and seed separation. Frozen whole berries still contain seeds and need a distinct preparation plan. Purchased pulp starts after extraction and instead needs supplier release, package handling and any controlled preparation.
A plant can operate more than one inlet, but the process drawing must show separate paths and any shared finishing equipment. Avoid counting the same receiving or transfer duty twice under different product names.
Use a duty matrix before model selection
Mark each duty as required, conditional, retained or outside supply. Conditional items need a stated trigger: refining for a finish requirement, blending for a recipe, or buffering for a timing imbalance. Record the owner for retained or externally supplied equipment.
The output route then adds its own treatment, packing and receiving interfaces. A frozen-pulp list must show freezing and cold storage even when supplied by another party. An aseptic list must show the complete sterile process boundary.
| Duty | Whole berries | Purchased pulp / repacking |
|---|---|---|
| Reception / release | Fruit unloading, inspection and lot release | Supplier specification and pack release |
| Washing / preparation | Fruit washing and defined berry preparation | Pack opening / connection and controlled pulp preparation |
| Seed separation | Whole-berry extraction duty | Normally absent |
| Refining / blending | Conditional on target finish / recipe | Conditional on target finish / recipe |
| Transfer / buffer | Defined by product and timing | Defined by product and timing |
| Treatment / filling | Selected from final product route | Selected from final product route |
List connections as deliverables
For each module, identify product connections, seed / reject outlets, water and cleaning interfaces, power and control handovers. Include access required for screens, seals and drives. An equipment name alone does not define where supplier responsibility ends.
Add packaging movement, waste collection and site services to the project list. These may not be process machines, but the installed system depends on them. Tie each item to a drawing or document rather than leaving it as an informal assumption.
Carry the list into the enquiry
Send the module list with product, capacity basis, package and existing plant information. Ask suppliers to confirm duties and propose model choices with clearly stated assumptions. Keep unverified conditions on a short information-to-close list.
A repacking project often has a shorter process list than whole-fruit extraction, but needs detailed opening and hygiene interfaces. Compare a complete coherent route rather than choosing the proposal with the largest number of equipment items.
Questions from equipment buyers
Does every açaí line require a washer?
A whole-fruit route needs an appropriate fruit-cleaning plan. A purchased-pulp-only route does not normally need a whole-fruit washer.
Is refining always included?
It is conditional on the incoming pulp and required finish. Establish the product result and retained-material duty first.
Where should the freezer appear?
In the project boundary and interface list, whether supplied with the process equipment, retained or purchased separately.
