Hygienic Pulp Connections, Gaskets & Seals

Document connection geometry and compound compatibility across product, cleaning and sterilization conditions.

A cleanable transfer circuit depends on the assembled connection as well as its metal surfaces. Confirm geometry, seal profile and actual material compound for each interface. A familiar clamp or a general food-contact description does not establish a matching, hygienic or chemically suitable assembly for the configured pulp line.

Build a connection register

Record equipment tag, line size, connection standard, actual mating dimensions and gasket profile. Include adapters and temporary hoses in the register. Use drawings or verified supplier documentation rather than selecting spare seals by appearance.

Check assembly access and how the joint is inspected after fitting. Mismatched parts or incorrect assembly can create leakage, an intrusion or a retained-product area. The installed connection should match the agreed circuit drawing and component documentation.

Select the compound for all operating states

Give the component supplier the product family, cleaning chemicals, concentrations, operating and cleaning conditions, and sterilization exposure where relevant. Specify the actual approved compound, not only a broad polymer-family name.

Trelleborg guidance shows that materials within the same polymer family can perform differently under cleaning and sterilization conditions. It also distinguishes compatibility considerations for media such as fats, cleaning fluids and steam. Obtain the appropriate supplier confirmation for the actual duty.

Make inspection part of maintenance

Follow the equipment procedure to inspect seals for damage, deformation, swelling or other deterioration. Record the location and exposure history when a problem appears. Replacing a failed part without identifying the duty can repeat the same failure.

Use approved replacements and assembly practices. Do not mix visually similar spare compounds in an unlabelled parts bin. A change in cleaning method or formulation should trigger a compatibility review where it changes material exposure.

Review the joint inside the cleaning circuit

Identify branches, valve pockets, drains and components removed manually. Cleaning coverage must include the assembly around the seal, not simply the main straight pipe. Confirm how inaccessible surfaces are addressed by the equipment method.

Carry the register into transfer and cleaning acceptance. The configured supplier documents should establish material suitability and applicable compliance evidence; this site does not assert a blanket certification for an entire line or a universal seal life.

Questions from equipment buyers

Can all food-grade gaskets be used with the same cleaning cycle?

No. The specific compound and its compatibility with product, cleaning and sterilization exposure must be confirmed.

Is the clamp size enough to order a gasket?

No. Confirm the standard, actual geometry, seal profile and approved part code.

Does stainless steel establish the hygienic suitability of a joint?

The assembled geometry, seal, installation, access and cleaning method also matter.
